Schedule of the Sacred Triduum at St. Justin Martyr Parish
("Triduum" means "three days," and it refers to Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Actually, these three feasts form one great triple day, the day of our salvation.)
HOLY tHURSDAY (April 1st) celebrates the Last Supper of Christ with His Apostles. At that supper, they celebrated the Jewish Feast of Passover. At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders. He washed the feet of His Apostles and thereby taught His followers to serve those around them. After the Supper, Jesus and His apostles went to the Garden of Gethsemane where He prayed. THE MASS OF THE LORD'S SUPPER WILL BEGIN AT 7:30 p.m., the Blessed Sacrament will be enshrined in the Chapel afterward, and adoration (in imitation of the Apostles with Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane) will continue until 11 p.m.
GOOD FRIDAY (April 2nd) commemorates the Passion and Death of Christ. The Solemn Afternoon Service includes the Passion Gospel, the Veneration of the Cross, and Holy Communion (from Hosts consecrated at the Mass of the Lord's Supper on the previous night).
The Service will take place in Spanish at 3 p.m., in Vietnamese at 5:30 p.m., and in English at 7:30 p.m. The Good Friday collection is always sent to the Holy Land for the upkeep of the major Catholic shrines there. See the poster following the next paragraph for more information about the Good Friday collection.
The main celebration on HOLY SATURDAY (April 3rd) is the great EASTER VIGIL which includes the Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion of the Elect. The Easter Vigil, which must not begin before sunset, will begin at 8:30 p.m. (It is the main celebration of Christ's Resurrection and, of course, fulfills the Sunday obligation for Easter.)
The Mass schedule for Easter Sunday is the regular schedule (8 a.m. and 10 a.m. in English, 12 noon in Vietnamese, and 5 p.m. in Spanish.)
